Had these given to me this weekend but not sure what they would grade or their value. I'm guessing the D at VG8 and the S at F12. Is that accurate?

I don't think I'd give either one of those above a G-4 grade. Sorry!

The 1914-D I would grade AG/G....its borderline but since its a key I think it would get G.
    The 1914-S would grade VG.
Of course these is just what I grade the coins at and the grading companies might agree or disagree.

The 14d has a nice strong date, I would easily pay between 80 to 100 dollars for it.!!

Try for a closeup pic of the mint mark on the '14-D. Looks kinda odd to me.

OK...hope this is close enough...if not I'll try to get closer tomorrow.

Sorry for the noise...I had forgotten to lower the ISO on the camera when I took this.

I would say the mint mark is questionable. The coin needs to be authenticated.

The spacing of the one and four look good to me if it was a fake the one and four would be further apart.
Alot of 1914-d cent fakes are made by shaveing a 1944-d to look like a 1914-d yours looks genuine to me.

Looks genuine to me as well. That is what the D mint mark should look like on a authentic 1914.

My concern is that it may be an added mint mark.

The style of mintmark was the same from 1911 to 1932 and from those pic it is hard to tell if it is the right mintmark. So there is a chance, that your concern is well founded and I could be wrong about my frist evaluation of this coin just need better pictures.

Look at where I've placed the arrows - see the small rectangular spur right off the corner of the D. And then the uneven spot at the bottom right of the D. That's enough to make cautious at the least. As I said - it needs to be authenticated.

My local coin store guy took a look at it today and seemed to think it was genuine, but knowing how often they were altered suggested I send it in and let the pros look at it. I guess I will. I don't know of any dealers that could send it to PCGS so I'll send it myself. Of the TPGs that take direct submissions, which would be the best bet? Thanks for all the feedback on this, BTW!!!

I would take it to a dealer and ask to have them send it to NGC.
The only ones that would let you send it in is PCI and ANACS....they are both ok in finding out if the coin is fake but they tend to overgrade IMHO.
