And why shouldn't they be all or nothing?

I'm not a fanatic about Franklins having full bell lines; however, I feel if a grading service is going to designate the half as an FBL half, than both sets of lines should be 100%.

I will say this, that if I were to submit a Franklin half, and wanted it considered for an FBL designation on the label, I would go with NGC as they look at both sets of the lines, not just the bottom set as PCGS does.

Yes, hence a designation of "Full" Bell Lines. It is either full or not.

I don't think it's that black and white , Conder made an excellent point , what if you can't afford a coin in FBL , I'd definately prefer a coin with 75% OR 90% whatever the case may be . Granted FBL means 100% full but why not a better description of the said coin on the slab , it's certainly better than no description especially if buying sight unseen , which I don't recommend but a lot of people still do it .

I saw one of these in SEGS 75% FBL labeled Franklins listed Frank Provasek's eBay store for over $600, he claimed he paid $550 for.

Raze - don't know. Ever get a girl 75% pregnant while your best friend got her the rest of the way.

SEGS grading is pretty good, however Larry is quite a bit more lenient on "problem" coins than NGC/PCGS, IMO. Be careful.

All of the above said, and as others have mentioned, Larry is a stand up guy and I would not hesitate to do business with him.

It's really nice to hear that at least one other collector on this forum has had a similar experience with Larry. :thumb:

The problem is that PCGS in particular has been accused (by members who get banned from the PCGS discussion board) of giving out the FBL designation on certain dates (particularly 53-S) when the coins do NOT have 100% full bell lines. The defense has been "they are as full as they get FOR THAT PARTICULAR ISSUE"

So it is more honest to call something like this "75% full bell lines" and ask $750, or simply call it FBL and ask $10,000?

Also SEGS is not calling it a FBL coin. They are saying the coin has 75% full bell lines. Or that the bell lines are 75% full. If they said "195X FBL lines 75% full" Then I would agree you have a valid complaint.

However, the grade on that SEGS coin, can be had for under $300, as there were several that sold for that recently on eBay.

Actually, the more honest thing is not even mention something that is moot anyway, and ask a more reasonable price. As I stated in post #36, MS66 can be had for under $300, as there were several that sold for that on eBay recently. One was as low as $142.50, plus $7.99 shipping.

NFN, but both PCGS and NGC price guide list the value of a 53S in MS66 grade at $300. You were asking $675, then dropped the price down once to $595, then back up to $675.

If the seller overprices it, that isn't SEGS fault. They just described it as what it is.

I didn't say it was SEGS fault.

It's quite clear who overpriced, and why. :thumb:

If there is contention about the grade then they has some responsibility.
