Hi everyone, Sorry to be a pain, but I wonder if someone would be able to briefly help me to determine if this 1562 Elizabeth I Sixpence is genuine or not. I know next to nothing about coinage, but I'm a bit concerned about the tiny stamp on the upper left-hand quadrant on the tails side. Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance (and apologies for the low-grade photos). Chris
Hard to say from the photos. Majority of the coins I see of her are worn and ones in this condition would be worth quit a bit. From the lighting of the photos it has a cast look to it which is bothersome.
Hi Chris From your pictures i think it is a cheap reproduction {The type museums sell for a few quid} Sorry if this is bad news but thats what it looks like. Cheers Graham
At least it doesn't have the goof I found on a supposed Elizabethan shilling (probably the product of a Chinese factory) at a garage sale last year - The legend included the Roman Numeral "I" after her name!
I'm so sorry. My father found a coin like this many years ago thinking it was real. I was looking to see if it was real, found this, and started comparing details. The coins are exactly the same. I'm sorry to bring bad news.
sorry mate but it's a fake. as one poster has already said it is a museum copy which is sold to kids and souvenir collectors.
