I don't have anything closer as those are the best I can get presently. The steps look full, at least from what I can see there..
well, it behooves you to get a good picture. In my NGC population report there are exactly 3 1955 Jefferson Nickels in FS. If this coin indeed has full steps, you've got a really nice coin on your hands and one that would merit sending in to NGC for grading. Q. David Bowers says 1 in 200 1955 Jeffersons have 5 full steps with a 6 step specimen unknown at the time of publishing in 2007.
I looked at this specimen on Heritage and they call that one 5 full steps. Really? I haven't received it yet, so can't take any others till it arrives. It cost me 3.00. http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=1136&lotNo=7712&type=NGC1136
I did the same thing and unless the real thing looks better in hand your right it won't make FS. but, not a bad deal if it could go 65 or so at 3.00
Okay, the 55 arrived today. Looking at it with a glass and comparing it to the Heritage 55, there are definitely some defined steps there, making the comparison. I will try getting a few photos but, I'm afraid I won't be able to get a clear enough shot or 2 to truly define the steps out good enough. It most likely wouldn't make 5 full step, but I just can't be totally sure.
I'll say it's a very pretty 65 ...As far as the steps go, it's tough to make the call with these images. I will say it looks very sharply struck and for the 1955 date & that by itself is a huge bonus....
I don't know how I missed this thread but I agree with the others who think the coin is MS65 quality. My concern is that I have never seen a 1955 with that color. They are usually very dark and something about the photo just tells me it has been enhanced in someway. If that is really the color of the coin, it is an outstanding 1955 Jefferson and one you should be proud to own.
I will try to get some shots of it as I have it in hand, the photos above were the sellers shots. Once I get some sunlight/natural light I will snap a few.
Are his photos accurate? Is the coin really that bright and really that yellow? If so, great pickup you lucky dog.
Okay, I just took a quick few shots with my phone and the color seems to match his photos. These are not enhanced other than sharpness. I will try better shots as I can. His photos are better quality than mine at the moment.
