My local coin club had some wooden nickels made last year. I thought they were kind of gaudy, so in my sock drawer it went. I'm actually thinking of motioning the idea of having a brass token minted with a design on it. However, many places online to have this done. Little to none of them have reviews. Has anyone ever had a token minted, and if so, who did they go with?
I think you mean medals or tokens. Coins are minted by governments. You should have stated it that way in the title of your thread.
OK, best place to get TOKENS struck, made or otherwise imprinted with a pattern, sometimes referred to as a minting process. I don't know but I'm interested too. Would also need help with converting my art work to a token (never to be mistaken with a coin) pattern for the dies. --smiles his jolly smile-- I get it, don't want to be accused of minting money.
as the op said, we can google it, just wondering if anyone has experience with doing this so we can get a good company the first time.
I don't have any personal experience having tokens minted. I would first look in my collection & locate some business card tokens that I've been given by dealers. There are at least a dozen or so coin dealers that use tokens for their business cards. I would then call a couple of them & see who they might recommend to make tokens for me. Just an idea for you.
Ask Matt (LostDutchman) He had nice tokens made for advertising his shop. My token I received from him:
TC makes a valid point. Danial does accept commissions. He's done much work in the past for clubs and organizations......
Another coin board that I belong to has had three coin club medals struck by Daniel Carr. He not only does them, he can pretty much do anything with them. He also good at over striking. Your club can make money on these too by selling some of them to the public. There are people who collect coin club tokens/medals. Believe me, I've competed against them numerous times on ebay.
Take a look at DC's hard times tokens over struck on Jeff nickles. Over striking might be a good way to keep costs down and produce a token that's nickel or clads instead of brass.
Our local NA has a presidents medal made each year. Not sure where they get it done. I'll PM you their contact info.
