Although it's not a doubled die, it does appear to be a repunched date variety.

Unfortunately, the RPD is fairly common and doesn't add much of a premium to the coin's existing value.

I'd say repunched date as well, the 1880CC Morgan is a common example of this problem.

It is not called a Doubled die, since the date was punched into the die similar to the mint mark, so it is called a RPD for repunched date. I assume this is a quarter as the quarter has 2 RPD for this date. The one shown in the CPG, doesn't appear to have the repunch showing for the "8" , but they say that there is a similar 2nd RPD for the date, but do not show it. I guess you will need to find a reference to check for sure. It may be the CPG listed, and they just didn't mention the smaller part under the "8".

I agree - it is a RPD, not a doubled die. Back then the date was punched into the Working Die by hand. If the die had been doubled that doubling would not have affected the date (because the date was added later).

By the way, if you hover over the image till it enlarges, then click on it and then click again on that image - it will enlarge a lot more. It doesn't work on everything, but it often does.
