Well, if you read the article on ducats then you know a good bit more about them than most people already. About the only thing I didn't include in that article is the pricing. So I'll tell you this now - you can buy most of them for well under $300 - your target range. And they are not that hard to find.

But - before you go buying any, you need to get some books and do some reading. I will recommend two to start with - Coins of the World by R. A. G. Carson and Gold Coins of the World - From Ancient Times To The Present by Arthur L. and Ira S. Friedberg. You can use the links found in the Numismatic Resources section under the thread titled Books to find them.

 

Just make sure you get the 7th edition of Friedberg - that's the newest. Other than that - any questions you've got - I'd be happy to try and answer

Nope, nothing does. But finding the right coin does require patience. You don't go rushing out and buy just the first one ya see. You wait and look around, study a bit, check the prices, learn about the coins - then you buy one when the right one crosses your path

Even those US coinage stalwarts such as Speedy, and even OldDan the Master himself, once exposed, have succumbed to the power of the darkside. 'Course I had nothing to do with it :whistle:
