Apologies up front for the poor pics. I've really tried my best to get a decent shot. I actually put the coin on my scanner for the second pic (ugh!). I can see the G but the F practically looks like a faint ghost IRL. I took it to a local coin shop today. The owner was rather dismissive with me and said that he doesn't work with errors. He did recommend that I take it to the upcoming coin show in my area on Sunday. Anyone care to take a stab at this?
If you can see it, then it is not a "no FG" error. Yes, there are week ones. Keep looking. I have found about 7 1983 no FG's and a dozen or so 1982 no FG's.... bob
An 83P with grease filling on the FG is no real collectible value other than what the owner might value it. Especially with the rolling scratch the extends all the way through DOLLAR. For the record folks, 82P, 83P or whatever date you can think of, if there's evidence of grease filling or a weak strike, not having an FG is no more collectible than any other grease filled coin. It's a die state directly related to the manufaturing process. The No FG on the 1982, on the other hand, is the result of over polishing on the die and as such brings a modest collectible premium just because there are so many of them available. You really have your pick. The biggie in the No FG Kennedy Half Dollar World is the 1972-D No FG. That coin is extremely scarce and is a big ticket winner for any who find one that is NOT the result of grease filling. There are specific die markers for this "one die" coin.
