In you opinion what is the most Over-Valued, Over-Hyped, and otherwise Over-Rated coin on the market today. One which is always readily available for those with the cash to spend. If I had to choose one it would be the 1995-W ASE. What say you? Take Care Bone
Interesting Bone, both the question and your response. I don't know though, I have seen one 1995-W and it was quickly snatched up by the dealer and resold the next day to a waiting buyer for about 200% profit. I tend to think the 1994 Proof ASE falling into your question. Valued at $250 in MS-65, the dealer I know has several of these in his case. When I asked why the high markup on this date, he replied "supply and demand." I told him looking in his case the supply part is good, the price is what is too demanding. Another coin that might fit in the over-valued, over-hyped and over-rated class would be the modern restrike Maria Theresa thalers. Now before everyone blows a cork notice I said the modern 'restrike' version. Interesting question to ponder though.
I am not a particular fan of the State Quarters. I think they are far too common in high grade and the prices are too high for them. I think in the future you will see a correction downward in the prices due the number of coins being graded and placed on the market.
The Delaware silver PF 70 Ultra Cameo State quarter- Noway in the world I could ever justify paying what people do for that coin- I have seen it go for an average around $1800 .
Rolls of the 2004 peace medal nickel $22.00 for a roll that should cost $2.00, and I find them in circulation all the time just like the 2005 bison nickel.
Uncirculated silver bullion (ASE) slabbed MS-69/70 FIRST STRIKE which is IMHO a load of... right up there next to collecting MS-70 1oz silver bullion bars from the Sunshine Mint. (I know they don't grade 1oz bullion bars, but the point is...)
Spoken like a true darksider! Don't listen to him children, he also tends to like that funny yellow colored metal as well!
Time Does time exist for the average person rasing a family and working, have the time or money to be anything but a casual collector ? Our money buys less as oil is used as a weapon by the producing nations OPEC. A Mafia by any yard stick. Foreign coins are great and the one Doug sleeps with under his pillow is a total piece of art from design to the actual coin. America is where I live but I do buy from the RAM, France,Perth and occassional dealers. I know so little about all of this that all coins are suspect until I find different. The hype is every where. In the business world it is called alternate allocation spending ( Getting the other guys piece of the pie ). The pyramid exists in all products to one degree or another. Lust turns to profit for those who have the goods. Do not tell me you have never had envy of anothers fine collection ! Be well Floyd
