We also want to notify you that since we announced these changes in April, two more companies have met our standards for grading coins-giving you more companies to choose from. Update your Coins listings now to comply with the new policy. Starting on May 31, only listings for coins that have been graded by one of the following companies may include a numeric grade in their listing title or item description: Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) American Numismatic Association Certification Services (ANACS) Independent Coin Graders (ICG) Coins that haven't been graded by one of these companies will be considered raw. Also, whenever you list or relist a single coin within the Coins:US category with a Buy It Now, reserve or start price of $2,500 or more, you are required to have your item graded by one of these companies. Good 'Til Cancelled listings will have to comply with the new policy starting on June 30. Bullion, collections, mixed lots, and sets of coins are excluded from this requirement. Listings that don't comply by these dates will be ineligible for relist or renewal and will be removed. I am glad that eBay corrected their mistake, ANACS and ICG while not considered top tier graders, certainly have a place in the hobby. I do wish that they would still allow higher value raw coins though. There are plenty of reputable dealers that deal in raw coins who should be allowed to continue to sell without having to get every coin graded.
I see this as a good thing. While not quite up to PCGS and NGC standards, ANACS and ICG are legitimate TPGs, and are certainly a big step above many of the other "backyard" grading services. The market will price the slabbed coins according to the type of holder they are in anyways. Still, buy the coin and not the slab.
Good for ANACS and ICG. I see both have cert verification up and running on their home pages. I think this should put to rest all of the talk about their grading standards being the reason for ebay's original action. It was simply a matter of updating their websites.
