In a similar move to rodeoclown I was lucky enough to have been able to read Tim Robbin's map in Shawshank Redemption. My coins have replaced the box taken by Morgan Freeman and now only myself and Stephen King know where they are.
Why does it suck? It just goes through probate, no big deal unless you have a large estate and then owe taxes on it. If its that large of an estate, you should have a coowner on the box.
Yeah, right Lee. I'll be packin' as much as I can when I leave this rock but something tells me I ain't takin' much........
Because probate sucks and the government interference in your pocessions sucks. They aren't interested in any form of justice. They are INTERESTED in the political graph for party appointed probate lawyers and taxes.
I still prefer my stuff at home. The bank charges me to deposit and withdraw and to store my money with them that they in turn make even more money off of, so the last thing I want to do is pay them $100 a month more in fees to store property. I'd rather my coins get stolen from my home than have the bank steal from me even more. Guy
I pay $70/yr and have all of my junk silver and slabbed coins in my SDB. Granted, that's only about $220 face in 90% silver and $150 face in 40% silver, plus maybe 50 slabs, but still.
We have only one local bank with SDB's and they charge $100 monthly for the largest size box, which would be the only size to do me any good. Not happening. If my paychecks could be direct deposited with my credit union I'd be done with multi-national banks for good. Guy
No, that was monthly. All they have are tiny boxes that aren't big enough for an unfolded sheet of paper, or large slide-out boxes you could store several tv's in. Guy
Go to a different bank. My bank has a nice variety of sizes, my current box is probably something like 2.5 feet by 1 foot by 3 inches or so. Flatter, long box. I can stack like, 6 slabs and still close it. The box I'm getting next year is $125, and much bigger.
More like a credit union that is a savings bank only....no checks or atm card. Hard to pay bills that way.
You're telling me you can't find any other banks/credit unions near you? There's probably a dozen different financial institutions, if not more, within 10 miles of me.
I have heard that most newer bank buildings are not being built with SDB's. Still it seems strange that there would only be one bank in the area that has them. My box sounds about the same size as Merc's and costs $100 for the year. I have a safe at home but only use it for things such as my wife's scrapbooks and family photos in case of fire. I don't feel comfortable having things of value at home locked or unlocked.
I just tried to open a savings account and they rejected me because i supposedly own money at a completely other bank, like $50. There is no way I'll trust them with a Safety Deposit box. I don't know what the solution is, but it has nothing to do with a bank. Ruben
Sorry, I meant 10"x10"x3' so total square footage a little more than 2 square feet. Still, more room than you think. I cannot fit bulk stuff, some folders, etc in there, but by gosh you sure can fit a lot of gold, silver, and valuable coins in such an area. The thing weighs a TON!
