I got back my 4 coins I sent in to PCGS today. 3 of them came back what I expected, but an Indian Cent I had graded came back .92, cleaned. What do you guys think, I don't see the signs of cleaning on this coin? If you think its been cleaned, could you explain why so I can not make this mistake again in the future? The color looks "off" to my eye, like it's been dipped. TPGs (PCGS in particular) is not very lenient when it comes to dipped IHCs.
Had the coin been previously graded? BTW, spotting does not necessarily indicate a cleaning. It simply indicates that some contaminent was on the surface of the coin. Blowing dust off a coin can introduce contaminents.
Looks like a very pretty IHC. I checked the XL Trueview and couldn't see cleaning hairlines. I don't think the scattered spots matter. Doesn't look like the stuff from an improper rinse. Just normal copper spotting. I think Leadfoot is probably correct and PCGS felt it was dipped. The TPG's are picky about dipping copper perhaps because it often affects color. Silver and gold get away with it all the time. Lance.
Coin looks great to me. I dont think it deserves a body bag, but PCGS dont care what I think. Sorry for your loss.
Almost every IHC I've sent in to the big 3 recently has been body bagged for AT. Some came straight out of previous problem-free holders. I really think the TPGs are damaging the market for these coins.
