The America the Beautiful quarters are the first circulation-quality coins struck at the San Francisco Mint in decades, with or without an S Mint mark. However, the coins are not being produced for release into circulation. Instead, the coins are being struck to be sold in bag and roll quantities at collector premiums. If sales are successful, the U.S. Mint may continue the program in 2013. The June Coin World Special Edition features a number of news and feature articles on a range of subjects, including a look inside the San Francisco Mint, and how collections can be built around an individual theme. I'm beginning to feel used by the US Mint. I do not understand why the presidential dollar rolls are not offered in two roll sets like the Kennedy Rills. I;d much rather pay (and store) $59.95 for a P&D Roll Set than $65.90 for two individual rolls. Now this with the S Mint Quarters. If ever there was an action by the US Mint that was designed to turn me off, this one comes pretty danged close.
Two suggestions for this program 1. make them available in silver 2. I'd only want to buy one coin, not a roll or bag. Before you tell me to get a silver proof, the business strike part is what drew my attention.
I might get a couple, coins not rolls. if they are clad coins they will have no extra value in a few years. the mass marketers will buy up so many and dump them on the market thousands of rolls will be held in mint condition with no one to sell them to after a while. they won't hold any numismatic value past the first year imo. enough gimmicks, the mint should just make them and release them into circulation like P and D coins or not make them at all.
There's nothing wrong with making a couple of bucks in our free market but it does make you wince thinking about all those slabbed coins and all those unwitting purchasers at over-inflated prices.
the Mint has figured out how to legally make a profit and they are going to beat that horse to death until someone stops them
The five coins should be made available as an uncirculated set and the coins should be released for circulation, as well.
If the mint really wanted to get my attention then they would make an entirely newly designed full sized dollar coin and severely limit the mintage....
