Hello folks, first off, not getting my hopes up for this being real, I'm aware the chances are slim to none. I bought an antique desk for $75 at Re-Store / Habitat for humanity and there was loads of junk hidden in it! It must have been a doctor's desk, because there was vicodin, pointers, compass, pens, etc. When we took the drawers out *ting!* this coin fell out. Bonus! Also I saw some replicas on eBay going for $10+, so even if it's fake, is it worth anything? Oh, and I don't think it's a replica. There is no 'Copy' or 'R' marked anywhere. So does that categorize it as 'counterfeit"?
It is a replica no question, probably made before they were required to be marked. I remember buying them when I was a kid as souvenirs at museums and historical sites.
That is part of it, along with the "mushy" lettering and devices, and the seam around the edge, these are indicative of a cast copy not a struck coin. it just doesn't look like a real coin.
