    Hi, my friends.
I have a Bicentennial Half 1776-1976. Please tell me: it is a silver .400, or it is a silver clad copper-nickel only? Now I write a big article about USA coins in Siberian forum and I need your help!

If it's a proof, the easiest way to tell is look at the edge. If it's 40% silver, the edge will have a solid silver color. If it's a cupro nickle clad you will see a "sandwich" with a distinct copper center. If it's not a proof, with an S mint mark, then it is definitely 40%.

    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

Add to edge color difference, silver clad weighs 11.50 grams and CuNi clad weighs 11.34 grams.
