1917 Type 1 MS 63 FH Not the most attractive toning but I'll take it with the Full Head designation. Only 2 to go to complete the PCGS 20th century type set (no gold). Need the Barber quarter and half to finish the set!
If only my camera would pick up some more of the color but gorgeous none the less. These can be picked up raw still in the original proof set, i paid $26 dollars for the whole set which is also toned. I popped the penny out but stored the rest hoping they will continue to tone and who knows could end up with a monster.
Lol the others coins in the set are just beggining to tone so they are an awkward blue color but im holding out hope.
I believe only the 1970 proof cents are known to have such outrageous toning. There must have been some kind of trace impurities in the process of minting the proofs.
Yes the 1970 proof cents are known for this particular target toning, but the dime, nickle and quarter are also midway through the blue stage i think if i let them be in the package they will continue to tone, hopefully not terminal.
You outbid me by a dollar on this set lol and since I was at work I couldn't bid again. Congrats on the buy **** of a deal considering the going price for a target toned Lincoln 1970.
This is the nickle thats already starting to tone as well, you can see in the hair its turning that rainbow color. My camera or should say lighting is not good enough to see but its also getting some yellow around the bottom of the rim. I think left in the holder they will continue to tone not just the pennies.
You are correct about the 70 S cent being known for this. I have posted these 4 before, but it seems relevant right now, and I took new images.
Been a long time since I posted this coin. There are 4 pics, but it is the same coin in each set of pics. I just took them under lighting conditions to be able to show people just how different a toned coin can actually look merely by changing the lighting and angle. The pics were not altered in any way with software other than to crop them. And they were taken with the same camera using the same settings.
