That is the historical significance of the design on the French 10 and 20 franc coins of 1973?

The three figures – Hercules, Liberty and Equality – follow the Dupre sculpture of the French Revolutionary period.

Please explain the difference between an essai, a piefort and a proba.

An essai, or essay, is a trial strike of a design, made to test the dies. It may be in a different metal and a different thickness than the normal coin and may also be considered to be a proof coin or a pattern. A piefort, or piedfort, is an exact double-thickness, double-weight coin struck with the normal dies. They may also be quadruple-thickness on rare occasions. Usually they are the same metal as the normal coin but may be struck in other metals. Proba is a term used on Polish coins to indicate a trial strike, usually in proof. These are often struck in fairly large quantities. It is similar to the German “probe,” which means test or trial.

Why is this a thread? It's not even a news article... it's appears to be part of some 'test'.

I do not get what you are doing, besides posting everything numismaster.com. A website I will probably never have to visit... because everything is re-posted here.

You spelled my name wrong, it is Kirkuleez. It's about time that they put my image on a coin though. I'm just wondering when they got that shot of me with a few women from my harem. I wish they would have told me, I would have dressed a little better than just a loin cloth. Darn paparazzi, there is no privacy anymore.

Some (selfish) people with a limited attention spans or an inflated view of themselves need to read articles twice to comprehend what they are reading.

Have you seen the Latvian Pig Coin?

It has great symbolism and characterizes the personality traits of many people, which is why it was chosen for the coin.

    Hi All !
Just to add my French "grain of salt" to mention that the reverse depicting Hercules started with the French Revolution "5 Francs" coin at the beginning of the XIX th century...and was used several times in french silver coinage.
Nothing to say about the nice pig coin shown above ( not seen frog coin for the moment )

Hey, that bear is not my typo this time. I cut and pasted it from the professional magazine with a hired editor.

The pig, however, considering the context, I stand behind 100%. oink oink squeel

Hercules looks a bit like a younger Hulk Hogan.
