http://cgi.ebay.com/1983-P-WASHINGT...9QQihZ008QQcategoryZ39463QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem they are asking $75 for circ rol (will not get it though). That is more than a circ roll of silver quarters. I for one throw these in a jar when I find them.
As a general rule, I don't like auction listings that tell me what to do... e.g. "READ!" " LOOK!" (or its sillier version, "LQQK" as if I need to be reminded that I should be wearing my glasses). And especially "LOOK WHAT A GREAT DEAL THIS IS" or similar...
The feedback system is flawed, if you screw someone over and they are too dumb to realize it or too worried about their own feedback they will leave positive feedback or no feedback.
OK I am confused then. The numismedia price guide lists the 1983 P quarter in good condition at $2.30 each. Can someone explain why it is listed at $2.30 but only worth 25 cents? I have been saving every one I get. Should I spend them?
Because the listing you are quoting is from a price guide that does not provide accurate information. This has been explained many times before in other threads, but the long and short of it is as follows. Since collectors tend to find the higher grade examples of business strikes in mint sets and in '82 & '83 there were no mint sets issued, collectors have little choice but to search for high grade examples from circulation. And as it happens, most of the business strike quarters for these 2 years were of poor quality. As a result, higher grade examples such as EF and up do sell for a premium when compared to other dates of the time period. Simply put these higher grade examples are hard to find. But only the higher grade examples. However, since the price guides are in the business of promoting the hobby, they list the lower grade examples as being worth a premium as well. This false info leads those who are less experienced and don't know what I just explained above to pay more for coins than they are actually worth. Want to find out for yourself ? Take a roll or two of of these coins in VF or worse into a dealers shop and ask he what will pay you for them. I'll bet he won't buy them at all. Unless of course you offer them for less than face value.
You have 90 days to leave feedback. What I do is wait til day 89 is just about up, then leave the negative feedback. Then they have no way of leaving you negative feedback because they can't!
Yes I knew that no mint sets were sold in 1982 and 1983. Thanks for the description of what the real world begets. So in higher grades, all 1982 and 1983 coins are worth keeping? I have been putting aside the 1983 half dollars.
Victor I said 25 cents because for me I would rather have one example in ms-60 or better than to have a roll of vg-8 coins. I do not sell coins so someone that does might look at it differently.Even the f-12 quarters look bad to me but if someone was just starting out I could see where they might be happy with a quarter in that condition. That is why to me it is 25 cents and $10.00 a roll but others may think differently.
To some extent, yes that is true. But it also depends on how you wish to define "worth keeping". I in no way wish to imply that is a money making proposition. There is some premium invvolved, but I seriously doubt these coins will appreciate greatly any time in the near future. But in another generation or two it may be a different story.
looky here these 3 are getting bids and they are in VF!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/3-1983-P-Key-Da...8QQihZ012QQcategoryZ39462QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
