This piece weighs 3.218 grams. I have literally seen thousands of plated cents over the years... this one looks different. Anyone have and ideas what it could be struck on?
It doesn't match anything we were striking for any other country in 67, 68, or 69. Closest match I could come up with would be if you were to punch cent blanks out of strip for a Philippines 25 Sentimos, that would give you a coin weight of 3.27 grams. A cent blank punched from Liberia 25 cent strip would weigh in at 3.06 grams. Punched from El Salvador 10 centavos strip or Costa Rico 50 Colon strip would give you 3.74 grams. The Philippines 25 Sentimos was 70% copper 18% Zinc and 12% nickel. Problem is while they were struck in P and S in 1968 they were only struck in Denver in 1969.
Looks like you have a plated cent , I can see what looks like a tiny biy of the copper from the original cent showing thru on the edge of the rim directly above the first S in states.
