Capital gesture on your part. Bet the fellow you bought the coin from never saw it coming. What did his face look like after you showed him the money?
It was an older Gentleman whom had put a bunch of Mercury Dimes in flips way back and stuffed them in a lock-box. I am not sure when he had done this, but the staples on the flips were in a 'zig-zag' shape. I thought I was buying a bunch of Mercs and did not become aware of the 1945FB till about a week later. I never told the man till I showed up at his door with 10 crisp $100's. I believe he was a Korean War Veteran. He looked me in the eye, the way that soldiers mentally 'size each other up,' and he didn't have to say anything, I knew just from his look. His wife cried a bit. I think they needed the money, but that is just a guess. I would hope someone would do the same for me. If anyone reading this is saying to themselves, "no way would I do that!" If you don't have honor, integrity and a higher power to whom you answer (I call mine Christ,) then you have nothing. Not trying to offend anyone. Just my outspoken opinion. Take it for what it is worth.
Unless you post your State, City, and address you don't need to worry about posting anything you own on this forum. And a big tip of the hat to FlipOfACoin for showing us what integrity is all about, God will pay you back seven times over for your integrity and goodwill towards your fellow man. Oh, my most valuable coin would be, what I think is a broken wing 1921 Peace Dollar. I'm guessing this because I haven't had it slabbed yet so not sure exactly what the coin is. I think there aren't any broken wing 21 peace dollars known to date.
I posted this in the "Introductions" thread a couple of days ago. I though it might be fitting to do the same here... Flip Of A Coin - Certified & Rare Coins: Everything Must Go! I have received word I am being recalled to active duty for deployment, for a 4th time! :rollling: Everything in my eCrater store must go... Flip Of A Coin
Godspeed to you sir. Thanks for your faith in Christ, and example. I know a Marine who served two tours in Afghanistan (as did his brother) and got his back broken by getting tossed from his MRAP. I'd personally you guys be done in Afghan but that's because of what the politicians have done, not you guys. The Marine made a full recovery. Stay safe!
I would like to personally thank and publicly acknowledge the 2 persons whom have, thus far, made purchases from my store. Your support is very much appreciated and genuinely heartfelt. :thumb:
Why, would you assume Liberals are against guns ? Gun bans were really championed by the conservatives of the GOP after Alexander Brady was shot in the assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan. I believe you may have watched too many TV political ads and not enough history. lol Seriously, there are a number of us with CIB's that are "Liberal" in that we don;t believe in leaving anyone behind, whether in combat or in a socio-economic situation. Do liberals own guns ? I am sure some do. Every revolution is begun by liberals, whacked out ones at that. People who no longer abide by the status quo and are willing to make changes to the system. I really don;t think you've paid attention or given this a lot of thought ? Just sayin'
I am elated to hear that the Jarhead... I mean Marine has made a full (physical) recovery. I can tell you one thing: It is a LONG way to the ground from the top of an MRAP! As for the length of this conflict, it is not my place to question policy. I will do my duty to the best of my ability, regardless of the political outcome and whether or not I agree with the 'powers that be.' I am first and foremost a soldier. My duty is to follow and execute my orders (legally) even if it costs my life or the lives of one of my soldiers. *On a personal, non-official note: I just hope we don't look like the Soviets, when they went home with their collective tails between their legs after 10 years in Afghanistan.
He has and He continues to do so on a daily basis! I forgot to mention this: If you make a purchase from my store, Flip Of A Coinenter the coupon code: CCF2012 in the check-out process and you will receive a 10% discount on your purchase(s).
I was expecting that outta an Army guy! The Marines are the point of the spear, but of course I'll say that, I'm from a Navy family. His convoy got blown up 4-5 times by ied's on one tour alone and they had contact everyday. According to his Mother, they were doing convoy's the Army wouldn't (I'm sure it isn't that simple, lol). I'm a political centrist, and very supportive of the initial decision to go to Afghanistan, I just never saw the point in trying to make it a democracy. I've seen a lot of kids my age (31 but 21 at the time of initial invasion) and younger killed. I think the Soviets are different in that they wanted to own the country as their own, unlike us with our good intentions to help their people create a country worth living in. Just my crazed Episcopal point of view.
I can tell you Washington State is full of Liberals with guns! I think there is a difference between a classic liberal that wants to ensure progress in society and provide coverage for those left behind due to socioeconomic conditions, and your more recent type of obstructionist liberal. These liberals drive me nuts they tend to react purely on emotion and are deeply offended by everything, save their own crass humor. An example of this is Gloria Allred. Conservatives have their nuts too, the one that comes to mind is Ann Coulter. I've been an advocate of the 2nd amendment since the first time I voted (for Al Gore!) to the most recent presidential election (voted for McCain that time). Kind of transcends both silly party's!
I hate politics and I hate war, but I have nothing but love for our military whatever the branch. You are my heroes and I hope that your return is quick and safe.
No disrespect intended, but no one hates war more than a soldier/sailor/airman, etc... Not because we are afraid, but because we experience the absolute devastation & destruction that comes with war. When we are back home, we bring it with us and often times, live it over and over in our dreams and daily lives. I remember about a year ago, the Blue Angels were in town for a weekend show. Without even realizing it, I found myself wanting to low-crawl to the mail box because I could swear they were going to drop a JDAM on my house. It goes a lot deeper than that though....
