I am not good at that.I think grading is more hype than it should be.everyone has a differant idea off what a coin grades.I do have some that have been graded. I bought them because I liked how they looked and the price also.good luck with your hobby and learn to enjoy it.
How can you tell???? I dont see any wear but i am also a complete noob when it comes to morgans. i took a gamble on this one because i had some extra cash kicking around that had no use.
Just looks like slight wear on high points in the hair. I'd have to see her in hand to be sure though.
I think it may be the light reflecting off the tops, it makes it hard to see. Also the photos are not the best it actually has more luster than the pic shows. I looked on PCGS photo grade and i think the circulated examples all seem to have wear showing on the breast of the eagle. I could be wrong and of course my opinion is biased but im sure some other members will chime in.
I agree on this assessment of the coin without seeing better images or the coin. But I will also add that if you are looking for MS gradable coins you are best off buying already graded coins. Lot less chance of getting one the really impossible to detect by image counterfeits that are showing up now.
Yup, definitely AU grade, I'd say AU53. There is definitely wear on the high points in the hair. Plus on the reverse at 5 o'clock there's what appears to be some slight rim issues.
While the images are not that good, the coin does appear to show acceptable detail beyond 45, but looks lifeless and dull.
You don't see wear? I don't see luster! I will give you the benefit of the doubt and blame the photos and call the coin XF/AU. Ya know if you took that $40 and saved it, you would have been closer to buy a coin you actually liked rather than buying some piece of silver simply because you had money burning a whole in your pocket. Did you get hosed? No, the coin has intrinsic value. But with that purchasing style, it really is only a matter of time before you get hosed again.
I don't beleive the rim damage is significant enough to affect the grade. I've submitted a very nice Carson City with 3 or 4 spots like this on the rims and still got a MS 63.
Doesn't matter, the no luster and apparent wear still knocks the grade down on this coin. I was merely mentioning the rim damage.
Sorry for stepping out of my comfort zone for a second. I dont collect morgans and just wanted an example. Thought it might be ms because as ive said i do not collect these. You have to learn to crawl before you can walk.
