Don't know whether any of you collect or otherwise come across euro notes, but we now have a new signature. The first euro notes were signed by Wim Duisenberg, president of the European Central Bank between 1998 and 2003. Then came Jean-Claude Trichet, president until last year. In October 2011 Mario Draghi became ECB president, and the first notes with his signature are in circulation now. This does not have any effect on the designs. Also, the year "2002" on each note will not be changed, as that refers to the copyright, not the date of issue. Here is an article in German; one of many that got published today. Attached is Draghi's signature - from another document though, so the one on the notes may look a little different. Christian
Well, forget about that sig above. The ECB now has images of all three signatures online: http://www.ecb.europa.eu/euro/banknotes/html/index.en.html (click on the "Design elements" tab) Christian
I am stationed in Germany and was wondering if I could get notes with the new sig in an uncirculated state from a local bank perhaps? I can get 20's from the ATM in UNC usually but not 5's and 10's.
Unfortunately the only advice I have is, keep your eyes open. Guess the media were informed on Friday; so it may still take a while until we actually get to see those Draghi notes. Have not seen any "found one!" reports in the EuroBillTracker forums for example. In my opinion, the primary purpose of those articles was to let people know that such notes will soon be around, that the new signature is OK and that the old ones are still valid. After some time you will surely come across €5 and €10 with Draghi's signature, either from local banks or maybe in your change ... Christian
In an Italian forum somebody just showed a "Draghi find" - a €10 note. Since he posted that a few minutes after the end of April Fools Day, I assume it is authentic.
