what kind of coins do you collect? I'm sure someone on here is selling something you might like. Oh, and welcome to CT!
Thanks and i really enjoy pennies and half dollars i have a 1964 kennedy half in great condition plus i have a large cent what do you have?
:welcome: If you are just getting into coin collecting, I would suggest you look for coins that interest you! The cheapest way to find new coins is to go to your local bank and ask for penny rolls. Browse the site and you should find all the answers you're looking for! Feel free to PM me, and I'll help as much as I can. I'm still learning as well.
What is it you really like to collect? You mention owning a Kennedy half and a large cent. Which enthralls you the most? Classic or modern?
oh boy, what all do i have... i have Indian head cents, wheat cents, lincoln cents seated liberty quarters, Morgan dollars, my pride and joy a 1864-s seated liberty quarter, proof sets, barber dimes, Roosevelt dimes. that's pretty much what i have lol. what kind of cents are you interested in? I might have some that I can spare.
Purchase a few ancients. Lots of history, cheap and the research can be fun if you let it. Seen one lincoln & morgan you've seen them all :/
I've been collecting on and off since the sixties and much more passionately since 2000. My collecting focus is on both classic and modern commemorative coins.
I would use some of that money to buy a book on the series you like. Then use the rest of the money on the coin that you want.
Mint State Franklin Half Dollars are very affordable. You can get a handful of lower grade mint state coins or maybe buy one common date premium gem (MS66) for $75.
I suggest starting with wheat cents, buffalo nickels or mercury dimes. With wheats you get lots of chances to score pretty good finds relatively cheap. Your semi keys in that series 1909VDB, 1910 S, 1911 S, 1912 S, 1913 S, 1914 S, 1915 S, 1922 D, 1924 D are fun to find and continue to upgrade througout the years and $75 will get you several quality coins. You'll then want the key date 1909 S and 1931 S, a lower grade might be obtained for $75 if you are lucky, finally the 2nd best key date 1914 D for a few hundred and the primo key 1909 S VDB for near a thousand dollars. I'm gonna get that primo key one day! I have extra 1910 S and 1913 S plus several more things at wholesale pm if interested
Mercury Dimes Rock! Once you see an MS66 FB, you will immediately become a fan. And for $75, you might be able to get two of them.
Interesting turn of phrase. I presume it means something like: you'll find the neatest things when you're looking for something else, or just browsing? Hmm.
Its about the best/cheapest place to get ancients. Just look around and see what interests you. Your not gonna find a better place, even advanced collectors shop it. 40% of my collection is from it. http://www.bargainbinancients.com
Mat- I've always thought about collecting ancients myself. I looked through the website and was impressed. Any suggestions on a 'series' (forgive me if I'm grossly misdefining something here) to start with? How about an online price guide so I know what is really rare?
