UK hammered detecting find!!!

    nice unknown hammered penny

    found in UK

    I can see it is York mint, maybe Richard III?

    henry iv maybe?? the obverse legend almost looks like it begins HEN... plus the bust has a long neck and squared jaw, which is found on york mint pennies early in henry iv's reign.

    how much does it weigh?

    thanks for the info so far, a friend said it could be a fake of the time?

    it weighs 0.81g

    i can confirm what swish has said, it is henry IV and is a superb detecting find well done!!

    it is possible that it could be a contemporary imitation. i believe you have a henry iv heavy coinage penny minted between 1399-1412 in york. the normal weight of a full flan coin is 1.16g.

    if as swish says it is a forgery then it will be worth very little, i have looked at it very closely and cross referenced it, an it sure looks fake to me as the portrait is quite amateurish this is an example of a real coin obverse and you will see there is quite a difference.................
