I was wondering if anyone could help me identify this coin. The front states 1796 and their is either a liberty head with a bow or a gentleman in a wig. There is writing on the top but I can't make it out. It doesn't look like liberty but I can't tell. On the back, there is a standing figure holding something (a spear?) to his/her right. I have posted pictures but the picture quality isn't good. I would appreciate any help identifying it. Thank you.

Weird. The reverse looks like some remnants of a standing figure or statue or something. For some reason, I'm thinking its not U.S. The figure on the obverse doesn't look like anything the U.S. coined.

wow, did you find this coin? And from what I can tell it appears to be a 1796 Liberty Cap Cent. I'm no expert on these coins but that is what it looks like to me.

I posted it on another site and someone knew what it was. It's Italian. It's a 5 Soldi coin.
