Good afternoon everyone, Ask me to grade in alsmost everyknown grading scale other then the US one. Ask me about values about most world coins other then the US ones. Ask me about toned coins, well i´m just lost If anyone has the time or interest could you give me a ball park grade and value on the coins. So here I am
Well, I'll take the '33 bust half. It is a O-103 which makes it a Rarity 2 (500-1000 surviving pieces) It grades at VF and has a very nice strike The coin was cleaned at one point but is still nice looking and probably market acceptable. I have no idea what that line is across the cap, and am not even sure if it is on the coin. If on the coin, it will effect value. Discounting the line, the coin be be worth somewhere around $100 Mike
I know the toning on the two Morgan dollars is natural (if that helps) And all of the coins are beautiful ones. Bow chika wow wow!!! Rigo
I think the '33 CBH is EF-45. Good eagle feathers, strong E Plurb, strong drapery lines on bust. But the scratch, die break, or maybe a cat hair across the top of the head bothers me I say $ $150 range.
Thanks everyone, I appriciate your feedback. If any toners come in here what would you aprox give on the toned morgans ? Siggi
i believe most toners go for about 25-35% over the book price if that helps. more extreme toners realize a much stronger premium however
Interesting post which raises a question. Nearly everyone on this forum is aware of the 70-point Sheldon scale. For non-US coins, what other grading scales are used? Can anyone point me to a source as I am working on an book that will have a grading chapter and I'd like to mention other scales. Thanks, Cringely
Sure, The 70 point scale for me is cool but in many aspects way way way way way to complicated Here is a good source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coin_grading Here is another one http://www.irishcoinage.com/GRADE.HTM
Most use the "old fashioned" system US numismatics used before TPG, (G, VG, F, VF, EF, AU, BU), but ancients do not use AU or BU. XF is the top grade normally, with FDC being used for superlative coins. Its expected ancients are cleaned, so are they really BU?
That's not entirely true. The asking prices are about 25-35% over, what they actually sell for is much less than that.
