I own a 1979s proof set. The mint marks are s on all the coins, the susan b anthony mint mark is a filled s where as the others are clear. Is the value the same or since one has a filled s would it be a different value? Thanks

If you have the filled S mint mark set, that is the more common SBA, type 1.

The clear S is the more rare type 2 SBA.

Here is t1 vs t2 Kenndy (my pics), if it helps. I know you are primarily asking about the SBA, but anyways:

i had about 40 of the '79 proof sets and ALL were type 1. nice set even if the sba is a type 1. i think if i had to choose, i would prefer the kennedy even though the sba is worth more.

since the case they came in hasn't been open I think it is just odd that only sba is the only type 1. Wow you got 40 sets have you had them a long time? I really need to read about the process of minting, but get side track at looking at everyones coins.

i know for a fact you can open them, at least the ones with the red plastic, and close them without harming the case. maybe the previous owner removed the SBA not knowing the kennedy would be valuable as well.

It is in a hard case but i agree one never knows what a coin's history is....(is why I like collecting). Fort Worth is having a coin show from ANACS it will be my first.

i would think its more likely though that they had extra type 1 sba dollars to use up before they got to the type 2. nice find.

Actually, since they have numerous coins to produce for the collector sets, I believe there is more than one station adding the mint marks, just as there is more than one machine striking coins.

right. that makes sense. maybe the last type 1 SBA die lasted longer than the rest? susan b. anthony was the last gal standing!

did they all use the same MM stamp for the different dies? i wonder if changing to type 2 was about S&P, or the type 1 stamp just gave out.
