Hello. I have an 1883 Nickel. Begining collector and just wondering if it is worth being sent in? Looks to be very strongly struck to me. Any info. would be greatly appreciated! I did my best to scan it. Thanks for your time!
You should be able to zoom in a great deal on these pics. If you have adobe, you should be able to save the pics quick and zoom way in on them.
The coin is not bad, but I don't think that it warrants certification. The 1883 n/c was saved in great numbers in mint state grades. Certifying may be more expensive than the coin itself, and it wouldn't be of any real benefit. I would use the money for more coins of course.
The coin is AU at best with some rim issues. You can get a nice BU example for around $20 bucks. Even cheaper if you look around, so no. don't waste you money on the plastic. It may even come back in a Genuine/Details slab Mike
It's not worth getting graded and slabbed by a TPG unless the value exceeds what it would cost to get it graded professionally. Another reason to not get it slabbed is if you never intend to sell it and even then, real collectors don't buy the slab, they buy the coin. A TPG slabbed coin should bring no extra premium to a seasoned collector.
