Hello The most unfortunate aspect of this rant is that it represents perhaps only a narrow point of view of the British. The nation has been chaffing over not just the Monarchy, but the entire peerage system, especially with the amount of tax dollars it absorbs for what many view as nothing more than an aging reality TV show. This is the kind of language and format that one sees often in the British Parliament, although they don't often toss the word "ass" about. If people from Brooklyn are direct, they generally don't act like this unless they expect to be in fisticuffs. Anyway, if you think Elizabeth II is interesting, you should read about the Mitford Sisters and the British Nazi Party, the European Magazine, et al. Charming how they all were and the Frick Museum has a lecture about them of late due to the release of a book by one of their Grand children. After understanding this, you can see why some in Great Britain badly want to ditch the entire system of Peerage and break finally from those Feudal trappings of the past. The OP mentioned he had a subscription. Short of the OP answering, maybe check that aspect out. If not, I am sure some will appear on the secondary market shortly. Most Canadian issues do.
I had no idea what the coin looked like till it arrived, I could not find it on their site either ( Royal Canadian Mint). All I know is I saw the charge for it on my bank statement.
I have mentioned this, specially on our "now" circulating coinage. They get pretty old quick with all the same political designs and when they make new designs, it has something to do with either another political theme, or a boring park. Why not design something with a sense of history....
Here is one ... http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320902023319 (Not my auction; just saw a mention at numista.com.) Christian
that's called a mace old chap and is over 400 years old, yes much older than your country!!!! still keep posting your racist drivel as i'm sure that some inbred yokel will find it funny.
Hello Mr Money12. I appreciate your vigorous defense of the bloody history of the Monarchs of Europe, especially the German ones, but, FWIW, it was a member of your Parliament who used the term you find so offensive. What I find interesting is the slamming of the door in the face of the Queens Representative in the House of Commons. That is terrific theater worthy of keeping the Monarchy all by itself, without any more justification, regardless of how backward seeing it is or expensive to the British taxpayers. As for the age of the English civilization, I'm Korean. My ancestors were living in a great civilization while your ancestors were still figuring out how to put up Stonehenge while living in the mud huts in fear of the roaming bands of barbarians with cheap swords. Amanda
Well said moneyer12. I'm surprised at the level of animosity toward the British Crown and the English folk on this thread. But I guess it takes the pressure off us Mexicans of Spanish descent who are constantly characterized as blood thirsty, gold obsessed:thumb:, Papal fanatic:hail:, disease spreading, inquisition loving:devil:, genocidal maniacs. The emoticon when Cortez and his men (my ggggggggrandfather included) landed in Mexico :welcome:. But hey, who's perfect? Those that are, start casting your stones! :dead-horse:
What "great civilization" of the Koreans was that exactly? Do you know the timeline of the British Isles? From your post it does not appear so. I am a great fan of far eastern history, but I simply am not aware of any civilization at all in Korea when Stonehenge was built. Certainly not a "great" one. All cultures have had their highs and lows, and trying to claim one civilization, any civilization, is better than another is basically racist to me. So, are you talking about the foundation of the Buyeo civilization? That was 2000 years after Stonehenge Amanda. All other Korean kingdoms were after this one. Regarding the Monarchy, I simply leave it to the citizens of the UK themselves to decide. We left the UK, so I don't feel I have a right to say what they should do with their own country. Chris
the slamming of the door at the state opening of parliament is a throw back to the english civil war, when parliament took absolute power away from the monarchy and handed it to the elected representatives of the people. since 1656 the monarchy in the uk has been little more than a figure head with no powers as such. there has also been recorded evidence of an early civilisation in britain from well before the roman invasion, and the ancient britons didn't "live in mud huts whilst figuring out how to put stonhenge together" stonehenge has been proven to be a complex astrological structure which cast's different light and shadows with the seasons of the year and time of day. but stonehenge is not the greatest ancient achievement of the ancient britons, that honour falls to newgrange and skarabraigh which are older than the pyramids.i achieved a masters at cambridge reading history so i think i am well qualified to talk about my county's history....................and these aren't bad for "cheap swords".
sorry forgot to mention as regards the monarchy i have always been firmly in the cromwell camp........................but i still take exception to anyone deriding my country, and it's traditions.....and we don't eat dogs either.
