Winston Churchill in a funny hat? No, sorry, too much hair for Winston..... Sorry no disrespect meant to our fine friends who still insist on living in a Monarchy. Isn't she the second longest reigning monarch today? King Rama IX of Thailand took the throne in 1947 I believe. For both countries it will be weird when they have new monarchs, since the current one has been on the throne for so many generations. I think britain would be best served by Charles stepping aside, (too much baggage to be respected). In Thailand I believe the playboy son is in line, and I am not sure how well that will sit with the population.
I thought to myself about how weird it would be when we get a new monarch as I have only known Queen Elizabeth II. Then I remembered that my dad was born in '55, so he too has only ever known QEII. I know when Charles becomes king his image will appear on our coinage, but will they take the coins baring Elizabeth's face out of circulation?
They never have sir to my knowledge. At least of modern coins, the old ones simply stay in circulation until kept as a collectible. I believe you will find it similar to younger portraits of Elizabeth, you still see them in change, but they just gradually get scarcer.
60 years in the making don't mean much in the ancients section. FWIW, don't you guys get sick of portraites of Emperors and Tyrants and mass murderers. I'm not say that this queen was a mass murderer, but her kinfolk are.
I hear you, but I am half native American, (ancestors were on the Trail of Tears), and I still have Andrew Jacksons face on the $20. What is the difference? My great great grandmother lost 12 family members in the genocide ordered by him as the only President to directly ignore a Supreme Court ruling. He should have been taken out back and shot.
I know that Elizabeth is getting close to passing Queen Victoria as the longest reigning British monarch. I remember reading that when she died it was a huge deal because most British people had never known another monarch (keep in mind most people didn't live as long in those days). I think Victoria was 62 years.
How many ounces is that coin? I could google it but I'd like to distract you guys for a second or two.......
Are those troy grams? So.....1.26384 troy oz. Not much more content than a Maple leaf ($5) yet it carries a $20 designation. I'm puzzled. Why the large jump in 'face value' ? Incidentally, I think the dear lady's a babe........
I can't say that I get sick of what images different nations put on their coins and I've certainly got no beef with Queen Elizabeth II. I actually think she's a wonderful lady. I mean, it's no more odd than parrots and turtles on coins, which I also like. What I do get sick of is poor grammar and spelling. But that wouldn't leave us much to read these days, would it?
The Specifications, this is part of the $20 Fine silver coins where they had the Canoe, Polarl bear and the Maple Leaf. I had no idea that this would be the next one but I signed up for the subscription.
edited that post was extremely insulting to any british person on this site........................me included. you may not like our queen but sure as **** a lot of yanks make the visit to the uk every year to see her!!! far far more than visit washington dc to see the latest in a long line of fornicators, slave traders, murderers and war mongers!!
Now come on sir, you are at a disadvantage since you have more history than we, so therefor have more skellies in the closet. No need to heave mud onto either side of the pond. Ruben is from Brooklyn. Direct. Its just how people from there are. I believe in my post 6 I already showed our own flaws and weaknesses. So people actually go to London to see the Queen? The only one I would ever fly there to see would be the one with Mr. Mercury, but alas it is now not possible. Whenever I went to London I spent most of my time either in a chips joint or in the BM. I know I am a geek, but to me the BM is the single greatest reason to visit Britain.
First of all, that is inappropriate speech on this forum. Secondly, the rest of it is gibberish and doesn't really deserve much of a response. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukn...n-should-get-rid-of-the-monarchy-says-UN.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debate_on_the_monarchy_in_Canada http://www.workersliberty.org/node/4295 http://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/4207411._Time_to_get_rid_of_the_monarchy__says_Oxford_councillor/ http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/talking_point/484863.stm http://www.jusnews.net/en/4/news/322/Yorkshire-MPs-back-monarchy-against-campaign-group.htm
