I sold all my junk silver when i t was in the 40's and deciced to start a lincoln collection. I was wondering if high silver prices has caused more collectors like me to shift focus to non silver coins. Im thinking to get into Buffalo nickels next, as silver is still to high IMO.
    any advice on Buffalo sets?

    Nope.

Honestly, silver isn't that high or costly in my opinion. I guess it just all boils down to ones own budget but I can spend just as much on Nickels or Pennies that I can pay for silver coinage currently.

I do buy pricey coins as well. I like doing circulated sets and when silver was at $50, I couldnt justify the price of common silver coins, So I started lincolns.

I have been collecting Ike's lately in place of my peace dollars and type coins. This is due more to the economy right now than high PM's. Since than I really have been enjoying Ikes and hve been able to find some really nice coins for not a lot of money. I also have gained an appreciation for high grade Ikes.

When I purchase a coin, I like the price to represent the "collectible" premium value. If I collected gold coins, then I would feel as though I were buying bullion as opposed to a collectable. When the majority of the coin's value is based on it's composition as opposed to it's history, then I tend to lose interest.

Nope, I'm actually buying more gold and silver coins. The price has nothing to do with this, though - I'm just in a much better place financially now than I was a couple of years ago, and I've been wanting some US gold for a very long time now. Now that I can afford it, I'm getting it. :3

While silver was in the $40+ range I went through my silver dimes, quarters, halves and dollars that were in my albums and upgraded a lot of my lower graded coins. I was picking up AU and better coins for the same price as my lower grade coin was getting for silver melt. Made a lot of improvement. Still pick up a little silver here and there while the price is "low"
Now I'm back to sort of whatever is on sale, where ever the wind blows. But I have slowed down on silver and working more through 1c and 5c, gleaning and hording. Still, enjoy raking through rolls.

I just started collecting a couple series and they are all silver. I was stacking bullion and still am. But I am trying to go into a more numismatic direction. My LCS tends to discount the numismatic coins as the price of silver goes higher.

Yes, in 1857 the high price of copper caused them to make the cents smaller. I collect the big ones. There is more of that valuable copper in every one of them. :)

Metals prices don't effect my collecting habits, but fads and fanaticism do. When the price of a common Morgan that should sell for melt sells at 5X that because people think they are making an investment, it kind of shuts the real collectors out. I won't pay those prices. But I sure will buy when they sell at a substantial loss later on.

the silver price doesn't have any effect on the coins I collect. at this point most of what I buy is $200 and up so spot doesn't enter the picture.
