[h=1]First Silver Shekel Goes to Auction[/h] [IMG]
NEW YORK, NY.- The first silver shekel struck in Jerusalem by Jewish forces rebelling against Roman oppression in the first century CE, one of only two specimens known, will be auctioned as part of The Shoshana Collection of Ancient Coins of Judea, March 8-9, at the Fletcher-Sinclair Mansion (Ukrainian Institute of America) at 2 East 79th St (at 5th Ave).
Art collectors of ArtKabinett social network will find many interesting and affordable objects at this auction.
The auction begins on March 8 at 6 PM.
The Shoshana Collection, assembled over the course of four decades by an American collector of Judaean coins, is perhaps the greatest assembly of ancient coins related to the foundation of ancient Israel ever offered, with more than 700 coins spanning more than 11 centuries.

It was a very nice collection. I heard that it went fairly well.

These jewish war shekles are neat. They were overstruck on Roman denari. Many times you can see the undertype, but this one was struck very well.

I didn't realize you had $925,000 to spend on a shekel, after blowing it all on that dugong. :D

The Shoshana sale? Yeah, it was in all of the coin magazines for months, (NN, WCN, The Celator, etc). I didn't know you were that into ancient Jewish coins Ruben. I can let you know of others I see. CNG had at the NYI this year one lot of a nice ancient Jewish collection. I hear it was pretty nice, and would be a really nice foundation of a collection. I thought about buying it. My ancient Jewish holdings are only about 50 coins, all cheaper types.
