Here are two new counterstamps I just picked up on eBay. The first is a possible Philadelphia issue which I like to get when I can. There's speculation that it was issued by James Bramble a Philadelphia innkeeper, but in my search of city directories I haven't been able to locate him yet. In any case, it's a nice sharply struck counterstamp with an odd looking 6-pointed star. It was once owned by Greg Brunk and came with his original holder and auction tag, so that makes it special to me. A lot of these Bramble stamps were applied to XF or better Half Cents although my doesn't grade that high. There are some of these stamps that have a broken upper loop on the two "B''s in the stamp and would be later strikes after the die started to crumble. The Long Island Coin Club issued the second counterstamp in 1982. It's a full overstrike on the obverse of a Kennedy Half Dollar. There's only the faintest traces of an undertype, but not enough that I can tell the date of the Kennedy. I have another similar counterstamp from the LICC (different theme) but on a Kennedy Half also. They must have struck counterstamps for a series of events over the years. I'll try and contact them for further information. I thought you might be interested in seeing these new additions to my collection. Thanks for looking. Bruce
Here's a third Long Island Coin Club counterstamp struck over a Kennedy Half Dollar. The East Detroit medal is counterstamped on both sides of a Canadian Half Dollar. With the exception of the denticles and some very faint lettering there's no undertype left on the coin so I have no idea what type or date it is. First time I ever saw a politician as part of a counterstamp...must have been an election year. Bruce
