Does anyone know what this coin is? I saw this eBay auction and the coin looks intriguing, but the photo is bad and the shipping charge is way too high for me to bid on. I'm wondering what it is though. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Small-Portu...t=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35bba6e805#shId
I was looking in Krause and there are a lot of coins that seem to look like that, but they're all silver and this looks copper to me.
That picture the seller took is crappy. Why do these peepholes continue to take photos of items for sale from the other side of the room and at weird angles?
Portuguese India - 5 Bazarucos (tin) ...and even with that shipping fees it was a almost a "freebie". Jose
I don't know why they take terrible pictures like that. I thought there was a decent chance it was a valuable coin and the seller probably lost money with that picture and not knowing what it was to identify it properly. Josemartins, are you saying it is valuable? I thought it might be but I just didn't know what it was.
I can't help with the Ebay coin but ..... This is a silver coin from Portugal. It sure looks Copper color from the obverse. (Absolutely no comparison to the Ebay seller's lousy photo).
Looking closer at the size of the coin inside the 2x2 and at the smooth rim, it should be a 10 bazarucos and with decent pictures and a correct description it should have sold for at least 5/6 times hammer price if genuine, which is always a concern with those type of coins. IMHO, the right thing to do would have been to ask the seller for bigger pictures and if not provided, not bidding at all. Jose
Nice, high grade (and uncleaned) Portuguese monarchy coins are always a nice catch! Congratulations! Jose
I messaged him to ask about shipping charges and he said that was the best he could do. I figured if he had a better picture he would have posted it. I'd bid on it if it was a few dollars to take a chance, but with the opening bid and shipping it was already $8 and I knew I'd have to outbid someone. He had another one too that was bigger. I didn't end up bidding but someone bought it.
