I was searching through a bag of 1943 D war cents and happen to come across this 1983 D. Any insight you could provide will help. Thank You ~Kyle
What's it's weight? Being 1983, it could be just a unplated planchet. I have one of these. Or the copper plating was probably stripped off, judging by that rim.
I'm not sure of the weight. I have a scale but it only measures in oz. Been meaning to get one of those small electronic ones but havent yet. What is the weight differential supposed to be?
I dont have the steel zinc plated onhand. The copper-plated zinc planchet is 2.5G +/- 0.3G. The copper planchets are 3.7G +/- 0.4G. I agree it the copper plating was removed by acid most likely.
Your figures and tolerances are off Steel cent had two sets of figures early planchets were 2.68 grams and later ones were 2.75 grams. Both types had a tolerance of +/- .13 grams The copper plated zinc was 2.5 grams +/- .1 grams The "copper" cents were 3.11 grams +/- .13 grams
