found 6 of these this morning.full die crack from top to bottom on all six. would this die have exploded shortly afterward?

It's a spiked head. Does it start inside the coat just short of 6:00? I'm not sure from the image where it begins. Spiked heads are fairly common but not if they're rim to rim. You have a nice prize.
if you look close at the last pic, there is a faint light area under the coat just shy of 6. that is the crack. i am looking at a 42" monitor though.
It the most expensive spiked head listed in Cohen's book-$10. in 1969. I can't say what it's worth today. Ten bucks was a pretty good chunk of money in 1969 but there was also more collectors who liked failed die errors back then which would have boosted the value. It's also the only spiked head I see that's rim to rim in the book. But again, it's an old book and they never published anything like after 1969. Congratulations, it's a beauty.
