I was walking by a Coinstar and found this wheat cent. It seems thicker than other wheat pennies I encountered. I compared it to another wheat cent and it seemed thicker. Is that an error? Does this penny look wierd to you?
If you feel that the coin is thicker, maybe you could post a pic of the edge, and next to a normal cent. Your pic does not show thickness.
When they rolled the sheet that blanks were to be punched from they may have set the gauge too high in the rolling mills. Perhaps setting the gauge to nickels by mistake.
Looking at the edge is also not going to give a conclusive answer. A heavier strike will show a thicker edge. What does it weigh?
I scanned it compared to another wheat cent. I don't have a scale. I am going to a coin shop to buy a couple coins. I think I will take it with me.
doesn't really look that different but i would weight it, that's probably the only way to know how much thicker, if any, your wheatie is.
Yeah it looks like buy comparing a few that some are smaller and fatter and some spread out and are bigger and skinnier, two of the four above are smaller. Anyhow it was interesting to find it in a Coinstar, I heard of people finding things in the reject tray and here I found something.
