i just experienced a bout of good timing. i was walking through the bank lobby and an older woman came into the bank with a bag full of coin that she wanted to cash in. she had the coin all sorted and labeled, and was getting rid of the extras she no longer needed to "fill her books" as she put it. naturally, i offered to take care of her.

i was trying to kinda keep an eye on the coin as i unrolled it and dumped it into the sorter, and in one roll of nickels, i quickly spotted 4 war nickels. so i snatched them up and kept going. after breaking open a couple rolls of bicentennial quarters, i noticed a roll with a silver on one end. when i opened it, it contained 9 silvers! so i snatched them up as well.

there was also a teller helping sort the coin, and i never got a look at any of the coin she unwrapped. so there may very well be a bunch more inside the counter, and i'll be sure to have a look at all of it when i wrap it up later this afternoon or tomorrow.

    tally:
    4 war nickels
9 silver quarters (i gave 3 of them to another teller that keeps an eye out for any interesting bills that come through her drawer)

btw, i made sure before she left that the woman didn't want any of the silver back, and she did not. i also purchased the coin from the rolls, instead of just taking it. i'm not trying to rob anybody :)

to add: found 2 more silver quarters after searching the bag. still to go: dimes and nickels...

Did they make a big deal about it? I hope they tried to be polite about it.

The manager was very polite which was the only reason I didnt insist on cashing in. I'll live, its only one branch.

WOW! I sure lucked out today! Went in to my bank and asked for three rolls of halves. Got home, unwrapped two and found nothing good. Unwrapped the last one and found a 1964, and three 1967 halves. If the 1964 didn't have any black dots on it, it would be in EXCELLENT condition. It's unfortunate, but hey. I'm happy :)

Also, these rolls were brown, I believe rolled by a customer maybe...not sure, but I went back to grab more and got skunked by two yellow rolls.

Unusual dime box today: 2x 1990 5 pence and a dinged up 50% (magnet test) 1968 canadian. Canadian coins are not unusual here (2 hours from the border), and 1968's are fairly common, but I've never gotten a 50%'er. The british stuff is new for me as well.

Seriously. If that is the case, I guess can't blame him but this rate will be the end of the free (boxes) world as it spreads. sigh.

I am baffled how you get a bank to let you drop off $20,000 in half dollars every week, I don't think there's any banks in my area that would allow anywhere close to that amount. I mean... yeah

I have spun some pretty fabulous yarns in my quest to get banks to sell me boxes (as in 1 or 2 a week), but there's no way I could pull off 8 boxes per week from the same bank. The amount of coin pickup/delivery fees these banks are incurring must be pretty crazy too. There's no way I could do that much volume... I mean, I'm not even sure my car would move with that many coins in my trunk haha

Yeah, 40 boxes of halves would weigh about 1000 pounds!

    Today's results:
Box of halves: Skunk on silver, but I did find a magician's coin! My bank has either switched suppliers or the armored truck company they use changed packaging suppliers or something, because instead of the flat boxes I've been getting it was one of the square boxes.
    $2 loose halves: nothing
    $40 BWR dimes: almost solid 2011 D
    $85 CWR dimes: skunk

I also set up a new bank account, hope their boxes produce!

Happy May everyone! Mine feels like it started with a prank! I just had the most redonkulous box of dimes ever! Skunk, except for the FIFTEEN CURRENT CANADIANS!!! I mean, that's gotta be some sort of record! "The price is WRONG, Bob!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueywqUBW3oM

Nothing good in coin today... couple rolls of halves... nothing. Two rolls of dime... nothing. Then I asked if the teller had any old bills. Picked up a 1934c $20, a $10 and $5 for 1950 and a $1 from 1957.

That's a nice IHC. Hit up a bunch of banks yesterday, didn't find jack until later in the day when a teller handed me $5.50 in dirty, filthy 40%ers. I also picked up my best box of dimes in a long time that produced 8 roosies.

Merc, you kill me. At this point, it's been so long since a good score, I'd take 15% fake silver pennies from the Algonquin Indian tribe.

Actually each branch gives me different amounts between 2 and 10 boxes at a time. Who is Bob and Erin?
