Is this worth $80? If not, what is it worth? If it is, what is the total worth of this coin?

Also, is this real? I'm just curious...don't want to waste my money!!

    Thanks in advance

Whoa. That's weird. By the looks of it, it seems to be two coins that were split in half and then stuck together.

I'm not sure though -- is this a known variety?

If it's not certified by PCGS or NGC, run as fast as you can from it.

I wouldn't spend $80 on that Ike. Unless you're really into errors, it's worth a few bucks to me.

If I remember correctly, that was a fairly common occurance with the Bi Cens Ikes?

Well the seller said that they had originally paid $200 for it. . . So I was thinking that $80 was good? Lol... I'd like a few more people to chime in though!

Also, bought a roll of 1943 Steel Wheats today, and there is one that is AU, and has a slight lamination problem on the bottom on the reverse, does this add any value? It is slightly peeling. (waiting until I get my Jewelers Loupe to take pictures, as my camera doesn't take great pictures!)

They got ripped off paying $200 and likely realize it now, so don't let them rip you off the same way they did. ;)

Just because they overpaid doesn't mean you have to as well.

To me it just looks like the machine that reeds the edges just missed the coin a little bit. I don't think this could possibly be all that rare.

Not a variety, it's an error. It's a partial collar strike.
I don't know what they sell for. Do an advanced search on ebay, see if you can find any that sold recently.

You need to do some studying on the minting process my friend.:rollling:

Although railroad rims are known, if I remember correctly they can be valuable. You need to find someone really versed and an expert in this field. I mean a national expert. We had a 1893S Morgan posted on CT about 1 year ago with a railroad rim. It was found and purchased in a Dansco albumn. (See the archives post dated 03/02/2011). Many on this board said fake, counterfeit or doctored coin. He was told it was ungradable and would be body bagged because it was a damaged coin. They said to send it to a TPG if he didn't believe them. He stood his ground, eventually sent it into NGC and it appeared in an article in Numismatic News as a rare find by a collector. I'm now a little more cautious before I dispell these type of coins. I'm not an expert, and unless someone has top credentials, it wouldn't hurt to make sure. The last I heard, Heritage and Stacks thought it should bring about $15,000-$20,000 on auction. As an XF coin, it would have a base retail of about $8500 to begin with. It was sold privately for an undisclosed amount, even though the owner first indicated he would keep it.. Now don't go out and put a deposit down on a new car just yet. I'm just simply saying ....make sure you know what you have - either way. Good luck to you!

    Have someone weigh the coin...

How much should a half dollar weigh?

22.68 grams, + or - a tiny fraction would be normal.
    Thinkin' it weighs more...

Or they could be telling a story about paying $200 for that ;)

That's an Eisenhower dollar, not a half, and the Ike silver dollars weight is 24.59 grams and the clads weigh in at 22.68 grams.

That's a concern only if you think it's not real. Did your seller say where he got it from? Was it a dealer, eBay, China or a private party? Did he have a receipt for it?

Doesn't really matter since it sounds like a story the seller is giving the OP, in order to justify $80 for the coin.
