Weird British 50p coin

    I have this 50p that has this kind of weird smudged edge to it. What could cause something like this? The coin is generally beat up but this doesn't seem like the sort of thing that regular wear would do.

    Not really an error collector, but I think this is what is called a "cud". Carries some premium, but don't give up your day job. Look it up on Google to learn more, search cud coin.

    Looks like it got smacked with something heavy, A glancing blow from the looks if it!

    I agree with trants, look like PMD to me. Mostly because of the other rim damage near it. A cud would be much smoother also.

    So it's either this cud or just really beat up then? Oh well. I didn't expect it would be a big thing anyway, just was wondering why it looked that way. Thanks.
