Hi all, hoping you can help tell me what I found in the lawn the other day?

I am not trying to find out a value, just what it is?

    Thanks a bunch. Coin.jpg Pics_0003.jpg

Love token carved from a seated liberty dime. A popular gift to give to that special someone in the 19th century. Thats a really nice one too.

It still has value. There are a lot of people who collect these.

I would have no idea of the value if I were to put it up for sale?

It's a pretty intricate carving so I'd guess you might be able to get $30-40 for it if the right buyers are interested. Too bad we can't see if the mintmark is still on it. An S piece would bring a lot more.

Search completed listings on eBay for "love token". The ones I have seen have been priced anywhere from $10 and up (and most are much more than $10).

Is the Mint mark on the Seated Liberty Side?

    Thanks Guys.

The mintmark would be on the carved side right where the bottom of the middle stand of the M meets that crossbar. I think if there was one it's probably gone now.

Wow. That is a very nice carving. Especially the detail for such a small coin.

You found it in a lawn? Maybe your lawn mower is just very artistic.

Yup, found it in the corner of my yard, in an area we really didn't do any up keep with but have done a bit of Landscaping recently, and this was found.

It is very ornate....Looks to have some older Solder on it, on the date side? Probably someone soldered a post onto it?

Yeah, most likely for a necklace or a pin.

No way I'm buying this was found in the yard.
Something is wrong with this story.

You don't have to buy the story, plus it's not like I am claiming I found some Coin worth 700 Trillion dollars under a Lawn Gnome. We were re-landscaping a corner of our yard that has always been over grown and never cared for, or attended to. Once cleared away and mowed I found this Coin. Believe it, or not, doesn't make any difference to me.

I would believe it if there was a Lawn Gnome, they like to collect shiny things...

Either way it is a great design.
