i believe i read in a post ( not 100% positive) that 1% off center is "technically" an error. is this true? is this type 1? if so and it is off center at all does it add to the value? listed price is au 130 ms 60 225. would this get au? any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.
Can't speak to the Type 1, but according to the Mint's own standards, up to 5% off center is considered "normal". The further off, the higher the coin value, and a 5% coin typcally carries no premium. As to the grade, I am not an expert, have had no formal training on grading, and am answering this question based purely on my own experience. That being said, I think its somewhere between an EF-45 and an AU-50, but the wear on chin and ear makes me tend toward the lower end of the scale.
the first photo is mine and the 2nd photo i got off coppercoins. as a refernce. it looks right, right?
I took a look at the coppercoins reference pics, and I don;t think it's a 1971-1DO-001. The doubling on that one is almost due East, while yours is milder and North-Northeast. That's maybe not a bad thing. You may have a new variety there, although I expect it would be valued more in line with the -002, -003 and -004 varieties. It looks a lot like the -004, except that one is due North doubling.
Don't know where the reference "Type one" is coming from when attributing doubled dies. The one posted does look like it could be from the same die as the 1971P-1DO-001 listed on coppercoins.Would need better photos for a better guess.
sorry when i said type one i meant 1971P-1DO-001. i guess that's a bad way to refer to it? here are a few extrta photos. best i can get.
That 1971P-1DO-001 also has doubling in the In God We Trust, so take a look at that also. I am sorry also that I can not judge on the photos. Jim
Does it show any doubling in the date? Especially the top serif of the seven and the top loop of the nine. If so, the chances are good that it is a DDO 1.
