the last collector set left from the first box. i got a very fair price last night for 3 silver/gold sets and the $100 canadian. still have a lot of silver proofs left, and i have no doubt those will move slower. im ready to go and get the other boxes tonight and tear into them. will keep you guys updated. thanks again for all your help and suggestions.
well, the silver proofs did move slower. by a few hours. all that is left from the first box is the regular mint proof sets and the unirc sets. im going to go and get some more boxes this afternoon. there is a coin show near me on sunday and i called the man running it. he said $50 for a table for five hrs. i might just go and give that a shot. i have met a few collectors in the last few days and 1 of them offered to help me with pricing and inventory for a canadian hockey silver dollar and first dibs on buying. edit* i sold the 4 coin constitution set last night as well.
One someone offers "melt" for a coin, they aren't necessarily going to melt the coin down. They are just offering you what is better known as "bullion" value for the coins i.e. value of the precious metals content. I think that you'd be very wise to hold on to the collection until the April show, and was suggested previously, shop the various tables for offers. It does sound like you're getting low-balled by your CL offers.
harlan j berk or if you would rather deal in the suburbs then morton grove coin and collectables especially for the gold they would potentially pay more. Two places from personal experience I wouldn't NOT suggest other than to stay away from profit-wise is Niles coin shop and Archie's on devon ave. in edgebrook neighborhood. They seem to pay the lowest and retail the highest. If a road trip is what you are looking for winthrop harbor but that's up by great america in gurnee. Jakes marketplace (jakesmp.net) is in lake zurich and they would meet with you at your home or bank so you wouldn't even have to lug it around. They don't have an actual public shop so you have to go through the website and make an appointment.
i sold the 1/4oz canadians for $425 and the half oz canadians for $825. gold was still at 1750/oz, so i got out just in time.
oh yes! im hooked for life! i already have a nice collection started for myself. i was given a portion of the collection and a fee for researching and selling the rest. i have made a few purchases myself as well.
Thanks for the info. I picked up a 1/2 Oz at an auction for $550. I knew I did good on the gold but wasn't sure about value as a coin.
