I have a 5 Peso coin from Columbia dated 1981, KM 268. It appears to be a female figure of Liberty seated with her hands tied behind her, almost like she was waiting for a firing squad, or perhaps that liberty or justice was bound. I haven't been able to find anything on the message behind this coin. Does anyone know the story behind this coin? JonySky

I don't know what it represents but it reminds me of "blind justice" theme used by judicial systems around the world, including ours.I'm not sure how Liberty bound could be a good thing though.Maybe it was a political statement.Anyway I just stopped by to post pictures of the coin type for you courtesy of OmniCoin.Someone else will have to provide the explanation.

Blind justice, right, and hands bound to keep them from tipping the scales of justice, perhaps?

Note the word "POLICARPA" beneath the figure:

    Nice call bluegill!
She is also featured on modern Columbian 10,000 peso banknotes with a picture of her birthplace,Guadas on the back.
