I'm pretty sure the Proof mintage is only going to be 300,000.

It's the same as the law allowed and originally intended. 300,000 total no more no less (unless unsold at the end of the selling period and then those not sold will be melted and made into later year coins)
So in spite of the rumors etc. it's 300, 000 - any that will eventually be melted (if any).

I'm still on the fence about getting one of these. I can get a decent Saint Gaudens for that price. The premium on them is through the roof IMO.

So they sold 50,000 the first day, it took 4 more days to sell the next 25,000 (6,250 per day) and now 14 days to sell the next 35,000 (2,500 per day). They are slowing down fast.

Any guesses on whether sales will be small enough in total to give this coin a chance to appreciate in value?

I just can not seeing this one going up much. The collectors are priced out of this one.

I wonder if sales have picked up since the news is out that this is a one year design? i am torn between trying to pick up a proof or wait to see what the pricing is on the 20th anniversary American Eagle sets. I'm sure they will not be cheap either.

Is this new info? As far as I know the Mint in entitled to mint the $50 Buffalo next year too if they choose to.

Guess I am confused. I have read posts here that it is a one year design and also heard it on one of the TV coin shows. One year would have been better in my opinion although they plan to ride the buffalo design as long as they can. Anyone for a buffalo dime?

The law allows them to change the design after it has been in use for one year. But it does NOT mandate a change. The mint could keep the buffalo design for as long as they want or until a new design IS mandated, or the coin discontinued.

The next debate is what is meant by the language of the law that says it can be changed after a year. Does that mean until the calandar year changes? in which case they COULD change it for 2007. Or does it mean they have to produce the Buffalos for at least 12 months? In which case there will be 2007 buffalos and no chance for change until 2008.
