Hello everyone. I'm a new member and am looking forward to exchanging information on any US numismatic issues. My main interest, at least for awhile now, is gem grade Franklin Halves. I'm interested in MS fbl' s and proofs. In fact that's how I found my way here. I was using google for something and came across a thread on "milk spots" and wanted to reply to it. I joined and replied to the thread only to find the last reply was two years old. I've looked around and it seems to be a great sight. I hope I can learn and contribute and make some friends along the way. My biggest problem will be that I type slow, and since it seems you don't have a spell-check, I'm using my email and copying that. Hoping your all well, billy-t
Welcome to the neighborhood, Billy! You'll soon discover that some people here don't use SpellCheck, so it's no big deal if you mess up a bit. Chris
I usually need spell-check - It's on now and said I couldn't combine spell and check. Oh well bang or bam Thanks for the welcome and nice toning there Chris. billy-t
Welcome Billy! Don't be too concerned about replying to an old thread. It happens frequently, and reviving the information in an old thread is often helpful to some others.
Hello JCB, I know toned coins are the big thing right now, and I've seen a few rainbows that I'd die for. Pastel blue and golden yellow hues make me melt, BUT - that being said, I collect shiny pearly whites. I just can't see paying for a coin that wasn't taken care of and got tarnished. You can get some MS66 & 67 Franklins from old mint sets that are really toned but I just don't like them. Well that's the nice thing about coins, you might have a coin you want to get rid of and there's somebody that likes it and is even willing to pay a premium for. Good collecting and be well, billy-t
Tarnished yes but not taken care of? I think that is a bit of a misconception some toners (the kind us toning lovers pay large premiums for) were well taken care of. That said, welcome and hope to see some Franklins Billy.
Thanks, Billy! The one I use for my avatar is an 1883-CC in an old NGC Fattie. Well, here are a couple more of my "tarnished" coins. The 1883-O has some nice textile toning, too. Chris
Kind of thought I'd get slammed for the "tarnish" line. In my defense I did say, "I've seen a few rainbows that I'd die for. Pastel blue and golden yellow hues that make me melt,". I just get so tired of the "attractively toned", and it's toned with black splotches. Then there's the colorful rim tone and it's rust red, or the orange hued mint set half that's so covered with dark brown orange you can't hardly see the coin. I don't know what it was with the New Orleans mint in the 80's I had an 83 for my desktop for years and some of the nicest I've seen come from there during that time. Ike crazy I'm not very good with a camera but I'll try to put together a photo box and try to show you some. Might even photograph some of my Ike's. But don't look for to much, I'm not registered with PCGS or NCG, I'm just someone who likes studying and collecting coins. Thanks for the encouragement Coin hoarder, we might be neighbors I live in Pittsboro. Leadfoot glad to meet you too. billy-t
Billy-T is not my lover. Hes just a boy, who collects all of the coins. But the Morgans are still my own. Heee heeee...
