So today I visited CAC to submit 9 coins I had gathered. My total was 7 out of 9 including 1 Gold! The gold stickered coin is a very simple 1938D Buffalo in a PCGS Rattler graded MS65. When I saw it I knew it was better than a 65 and CAC proved correct! Other coins that stickered: MS62 Barber Quarter in a Doily, a toned 1913 Buffalo Nickel I bought from Jom, a 1831 Bust Half, a toned Pan Pac commem, and the most important was a 1793 Liberty Cap large cent in PCGS AG3. John said this coin had very choice surfaces and was very nice for the grade. Here are some of the others that passed. I did not image the gold stickered buffalo yet. Will do that later this week. Purchased from Jom! Doily
Newbie question, but what is CAC? Is that a specific show or a way to submit the coins in person? Beautiful coins btw!
CAC has done a lot to create incentives for grading services to have good standards. Here is a coin I bought at Teletrade, got "CAC'd" and then CAC bought it for $2200 from me: http://www.teletrade.com/coins/lot.asp?auction=3215&lot=2784
No CAC, has standing offer prices on all CAC'd coins. It is a main reason they have built so much trust so fast. They are willing to put their money where their mouth is...
By guaranteeing they will purchase any CAC coin. If you want, they'll buy it from you at any time. Love the Liberty Cap cent, what a beautiful AG!
Just a quick question. I just wonder if CAC might finally connect the dots and if they are gaining so much trust, wonder why they certify other TPG coins. Why not just slab them themselves and capture more of the marketplace? Myself, if CAC came out with slabs where they photographed each coin to ensure no crackout/resubmissions, and graded conservatively, and since they were new didn't have a bunch of old overgraded coins in their slabs laying around, I would be much more open to owning US coins in slabs. I guess I am just wondering if CAC is adding better value to slabs than the TPGers are, they should get all of that revenue, not PCGS or NGC.
I'm not going to get into the which TPG is the best debate, but NGC and PCGS are considered the top 2, we've seen it through Ebay now (again a whole different debate). A CAC ICG/ANACS slab, just doesn't sound right to me atleast. I think CAC is a good service for higher value coins, maybe over 1,000. I still prefer judging coins myself, even though my opinion is amateur at best.
Exactly, it's all planned out and connected. Plus, CAC is very focused on only certain issues and dates. It wouldn't be a very broad slabbing operation. I'd love to get a CAC sticker on some world slabs, but it would be impossible for the small number of people at CAC to have enough expertise. Division of labor, let PCGS/NGC slab & grade and CAC will just give another opinion & buyback guarantee. If someone is looking for a grader that simply is always conservative, let's join and make one that always grades 2 points lower than the average graders' consensus. We can call it POGHGS (Perpetual Old Green Holder and Gold Sticker).
I pretty much agree with what Hunt said. I believe that CAC is a good service but should be reserved when dealing with $300-500 + Coinage. It should be used as a tool in helping to determine value for higher grade coins. I believe if it is used on any old coin than it will diminish the value of the service.
