So over the years, I have amassed a collection of three chain cents. Thats right, THREE. But none were in problem free holders. I also had a 1793 Liberty Cap in a genuine holder as a hole filler until I found a decent example in a problem free holder. I have one left that im not in a hurry to sell. My goal was to move those coins out and replace them with decent problem free examples.

Over the last few days, I sold two of these coins. The third I sold a few months ago. On two of them I made a handsome profit, and on one (guess which one), I ended up losing a a little bit. But I was happy to do it as it brings in cash for other purchases.

Here is one coin that I bought as a replacement of those above. I also have a 1793 Liberty Cap with nice surfaces in AG3 on its way.

  3. I can't say I am a fan of low grade large cents, but I can appreciate the rarity and the prominence of such coins. Very cool, Ankur.

Very nice chain, mine looks like it spent a little time underground. How did you manage to amass three? I'm jealous.

I bought a VF-35 from Heritage a while back, but took a trade for a 1872 proof set for it a while back. I miss that coin. :( It was one of my favorites, but I caught the proof bug about ten years ago.

Is the date readable on the S1 you picked up? My guess is you lost money on the reingraved coin.

Not much of a date on the S1. I actually made a profit in the reengraved one!

You did well to let the damaged/tooled pieces go, and settle for a problem free one, albeit low grade. That S-1 looks quite nice, so congratulations.

Do show you new Liberty Cap when it arrives.

    Goal for this year??
That is my goal for, like, LIFE. Nice coins btw, and good decision to pick up a problem free one. I'm sure you'll be much more happy with it. :)

I can't say I'm surprised Ankur, that is definitely a nice trade up to the S-1 piece! I take it the re-engraved coin is the first one? That hair looks a little too detailed. What's goal #2 for the year, you have another 2/3 of the way to go through?

Yes the first one is reengraved with hair and face detail added.

Next goal for the year? Buy less coins!

Kidding aside I'd love to pick up a lower grade problem free half disme and upgrade the G6 chain. The G6 will be easy to resell.
That and a decent $2.50 turban head to complete my turban head set.

Not sure they are probably pretty similar. It is a PR-65 set no gold though.

Great deal indeed. That tooled one probably is nice for a collector that just likes the look of them but it was a good idea to move to a problem free one.
And a Half Disme...nice good luck with that one too.
