I posted this coin in a recent thread which prompted me to take a closer look at the coin. http://www.cointalk.com/t203823/ Is there any way to remove this green crusty stuff? The coin had been previously soaked in Acetone for days & the green color is quite hard.

You could try Verdi-Gone but I doubt it will get it all off. But it'll sure get some of it off.

The coin has soaked in Verdi-Care for a week. I'll post photos.

Nothing really more you can due, it's just a victim of it's environment.

I've got some copper's that I like to improve. What's everyone's opinion of verdi-gone on a coin worth little? Does it make it better or worse?

Looks like that Verdi-Care works pretty well. Good to know. Wizard sells that stuff right?

In professional grading (TPG's) views, NGC see's a little bit of verdigriss as OK. Some cases it can be removed, and still fetch a numerical grade. In other's only partially of it can be removed, in that case it would probably be environmental damage. In other cases, all of it can be removed, but it affected the surface, and it will still receive a details grade.

So it all depends on how far the verdigriss has already affected the surface, relating to value.

Thanks for sharing your results! :)

You should be able to remove a lot more verdigris with VC. Put the coin under some VC, let it soak 24 hours and then use a toothpick on the thick stuff WHILE UNDER FLUID. It should take less than 5 minutes of careful work to improve the coin. I did this in about 2 minutes:

Also, from the pictures and the look of the verdigris, it appears you rinsed the coin with something after treatment. Rinsing is not recommended and 24 is the maximum recommended soaking time.
