1968 no S or philly?

    im sure u get alot of these.. ive looked over it, adn read alot, ik its in crappy shape, but it does seem to have deep marks in it.. let me know ! lets call this one (#1)

    Those are business strikes from Philadelphia.

    Those are buisness strikes from Philadelphia. There are a few 100 million 1968 dimes minted in Philly that have no mint mark. The no S coin is proof and even circulated - you would know it was a proof

    thankyou. now to know its a Proof... the only difference is the quality essentially? coz all my research ive only found theres a "square rim" on the Proofs.. what is this square rim?

    Proof is a method of manufacture, and the planchets the coins are struck on are polished to a mirror finish, and the dies and hubs are different than what's used for business strikes. Proofs are also struck more than once with the dies wherein business strikes are struck once.

    Not always... there have been instances where proof dies were also used for business coinage.

    Rims can be square ( right angle like a corner) such as with proofs or chamfered ( rounded) such as for circulation.

    Here is a square rim on top and a chamfered rim on the bottom
